1 Peter 2:2 (NIV)

"Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation."

This passage of scripture indicates that certain aspects of the word of God can be called spiritual milk. These aspects of the word of God, just like natural milk, are responsible for growth, and every new believer needs to be exposed to these kinds of teachings to grow up in spiritual things. So, what kinds of teachings can be termed the milk of the word.

God allowed the writer of the book of Hebrews (based on the evidence of Hebrews 5:12 and 6:1-2) to document for us, certain teachings of the Christian faith as the milk of the word of God. These include teachings about Repentance from dead works, Faith toward God, Instructions about baptisms, Laying on of Hands, Resurrection and Eternal Judgment. We attempt to make available, resources that people can use to grow their knowledge in this regard.

When believers are exposed to these kinds of teachings, their growth in the things of the spirit are firm and not stunted. They are able to overcome the challenges of stunted growth that plagued the Corinthians and the people to whom the book of Hebrews was written. These people were not able to appreciate deeper truths of the Christian faith, because God would not issue a permit for the eyes of their understanding to be enlightened (Hebrews 6:3) because they had not been established in the foundation doctrines of Christianity (milk of the word). The implication of this stunted growth was a lifestyle of carnality and routine defeat by the flesh and the ways of the world - pride of life, lust of the flesh and lust of the eyes (1 John 2:15-17). This syndrome of routine defeat is still valid today, and God does not want this for His children. We need to be exposed to the milk of the word of God first to guarantee a steady growth in Christianity, and we want to encourage everyone to access resources in this section of the website to grow in this regard.
